It is with great sadness that we share with you the news of the death of one of AGS' authors, Leota M. Dunn, 83, of Las Vegas, Nevada. She died October 1, 2001 at home from cancer. She was born in Canada in 1917 where she grew up, was educated and taught school for a number of years. Leota emigrated to the United States in 1950 with her husband and only son. Since then, the family had lived mainly in Nashville, TN and Honolulu, HI, before moving to Las Vegas in 1994. She is best known in the USA for co-authoring a number of educational tests and instructional programs for children with disabilities, including the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test and the Peabody Language Development Kits. She has recently funded scholarships at Fisk University and a research professorship at Vanderbilt University both in Nashville, TN.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Lloyd M. Dunn, a well-known retired special educator, and her son, Dr. Douglas M. Dunn, currently a Dean at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. Douglas and his wife, Karen, provided Leota with four grandchildren: Emily, Andrew, Justin, and Thomas.

She is remembered for her warm friendship, appreciation of good food, her joy of worldwide travel, and her love of bridge.

Mrs. Dunn has been cremated. Her ashes are to be scattered over the graves of her parents in Canada. The family suggests contributions be made to the Nathan Adelson Hospice at [702] 796-3133, where the family has made a donation in her memory and those of the many others who were given help and relief by this organization.
