Kathleen Williams, Ph.D., NCSP

Kathleen T. Williams, Ph.D., began her professional career as a second-grade teacher in 1968. Since that time she has been employed as a classroom and remedial reading teacher; speech pathologist for both preschool and K-12; and school psychologist for K-12. She has taught at the graduate and undergraduate levels. For the past sixteen years she has been engaged in the development and publishing of assessment and curriculum materials.

Currently Dr. Williams is Vice President for the Office of Academic Initiatives and Test Development for the College Board where she manages the activities of the academic committees and supervises the development of College Board assessments, such as the new SAT™. Previously, she was Vice President of Product Development for AGS Publishing where she authored the Reading Fluency Indicator, the Group Math Assessment and Diagnostic Evaluation, the Math-Level Indicator, the Group Reading Assessment and Diagnostic Evaluation, the Reading-Level Indicator, and the Expressive Vocabulary Test. Dr. Williams has served as a technical consultant for several large government studies on early childhood development and is a frequent presenter of continuing education workshops in the areas of reading, oral language, vocabulary development, and writing assessment and intervention.

In 2006, Dr. Williams was given the "Psyched About Reading" award from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) Reading Interest Group for her authorship of the GRADE test. The GRADE defines reading as a receptive language skill and identifies students in PreK through Grade 12 who may have difficulties with various prerequisite reading subskills.

Dr. Williams has a B.S. in Audiology and Speech Sciences from Purdue University, an M.Ed. in Elementary Education - Reading from Valparaiso University, and an M.A. in Educational Psychology, and a Ph.D. in School Psychology from Ball State University. Dr. Williams is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist and holds an Indiana Life License as an elementary education teacher.
