Do any of you use the DSTP- Differential Screening Test for Processing- and what do you think of it?
I'm concerned about the Auditory Discrimination subtest in which the kids hear background noise (white noise) and must repeat the syllable or nonsense word they heard.
I've administered the DSTP 12 times and 7 have failed the Auditory Discrimination section. I've noticed that many children try to make the nonsense words into real words (e.g., for adge they say "edge"). They also tend to add the /h/ sound to the beginning of the words that start with vowels (e.g., for /ap/ they say, "hop").
Have any of you noticed the same thing? I have concerns about other parts of the test as well but the Auditory Discrimination section stands out. I'm starting to wonder about the validity of the test.

Differential Screening Test for Processing
I ordered it last year, and I think I"m going to return it. I don't like it, and I have wondered if it was valid as well.

Differential Screening Test for Processing
I have been using this assessment since it came out and I can say that I have been pleased overall with it's validity. We have to remember this is a SCREENING TEST. The test tells us who might be at RISK for CAPD. I have given the screen about 18 times in the last two years and made referrals to an audiologist based on failing this screen about ten times. Of these 10 instances, 7 of these students were diagnosed with CAPD. Seems pretty valid to me!
