As an SLP who works with Middle School and High School age students, I often work on metaphorical language comprehension. One day another student had tracked tar on my office floor and I was attempting to get the area cleaned up when my 9th grade student with autism entered. You can only imagine my glee when he showed comprehension of higher level language by stating the following, "Is that your subtle way of telling me you plan on joining the North Carolina Tar Heels soon Mrs. Miller, cause I sure will miss you?!" We both laughed and I knew he had reached a new level with his language comprehension and usage! |
