I was working with 4th graders on multiple meanings of words. "Tell me a sentence using the word 'pool,'" I said. Ryan says, "I have a swimming pool." So I told them to tell me a different sentence using a different meaning for 'pool.' Eli said, "I can pool a heavy load." I said, "No, that's 'pull'. Listen: p-oo-l, not p-u-ll." Fred says, "I've got one: The sign on the door says 'pool'." To which Kevin says, "No it doesn't. It says 'push.'" I just put my head down on the table. |
