Last week, I was working with two 2nd grade boys on vocalic /r/, specifically /air/ this day. The session was almost over when one of the boys started wiggling in his chair and I thought I might need to excuse him to the bathroom. When I asked him what was wrong, he had a worried look on his face, jumped up out of his chair and began digging in his pocket. Immediately I saw the head of what I thought at first was a snake. Quickly, he pulled out a frog (thank goodness) and said, "How did that get in (pause and thought about correct placement) THERE?" Perfect final /r/. Needless to say, he got a great percentage this day! The frog jumped around the room a few times, we finally caught it, and released it outside with his permission. Boys!!
