While doing my practicum work in an early childhood program, I came across a five-year-old boy, "Johnny," who was beyond his years in intelligence. However, "Johnny" couldn't produce a "k" or "g" sound in words. While working in the classroom, my supervisor and I came across three little boys, one being "Johnny," who had built a small animal habitat with plastic animals and wooden blocks. Seeing an opportune speech moment, my supervisor picked up an animal and said, "Johnny, look I found a raccoon." Johnny looked at her, smiled and thoughtfully patted her arm and said, "No, no, Miss Amy, that isn't a ratoon, that's a lemur."
