Submit Your Story

Submitted by Marcia Brown-Haims, Associate Professor, Cape Girardeau, MO

I was supervising a graduate student completing a language evaluation. During a vocabulary test, the stimulus was a picture of several fruits. The child began naming the individual fruits, so the student told him that she needed one word for all of those items. Several picture plates later in the test, there was a picture of several toys. Again, he named the individual toys. Patiently, the student reminded him that she needed one word for all of the items. Several picture plates later in the test, there was a picture of several items of clothing. The child looked at the student and said "I know, you need one for all of those, and I don't know what it is!"
