I was doing a group activity with first graders and had finished a bit early. To fill the time, I read to them from a book that contained several idioms. I decided to seize the moment and talk to the students about idioms.
I thought I had done well and the children understood until later in the day when one of the student's teachers approached me and asked what we had done in therapy. I told her that we had worked on sound production and then read for a while and
talked about idioms. She started laughing and said that when the student had come back to class and she had asked him what he had learned in speech therapy his reply was "we talked about idiots."
